PET West Michigan is a faith based organization which began in July of 2009 to change the course of children's lives in developing countries, and at the same time provide meaningful work for West Michigan retirees. *According to the World Health Organization over 23 million people are leg/feet handicapped in developing countries. One third of these people live in areas where a regular wheel chair will not work. They've been severely impacted by birth defects, disease, accidents, or military conflicts, which often leave active land mines and unexploded ordinance in the vicinity of regular people, just like us. It is estimated that approximately 1.8 million of these people are children. These children are the focus of the PET West Michigan organization.
In the developing world having no mobility often means having no opportunity- no opportunity for vaccinations, nutrition, work, worship, or a future outside of squalor. Restoring mobility often restores people's place in their world, their village, their family, and resurrects their personal sense of dignity and self-worth. PET West Michigan is helping in this restoration, and you can help!
At PET West Michigan we make durable, precision-built, hand cranked, three wheeled carts for children in the developing world who don't have the use of their feet or legs. These carefully engineered, hand cranked carts go where wheelchairs cannot go, because in developing world countries there are no sidewalks, often no roads. Imagine a disabled child in these circumstances: no way to move except to crawl, no way to see beyond his/her small world, and often with no hope for a future. You can help us change his/her life today.
PET International's founders originally developed "P.E.T." , the acronym for 'Personal Energy Transportation, and created the original design for both an adult size and a child sized P.E.T.. At our remarkable, state of the art PET shop in Holland, West Michigan retiree volunteers of all levels of experience make these sturdy carts for children only, allowing us to focus our resources exclusively on reaching the most needy among God's children. Each Holland made P.E.T. is brightly colored, comes complete with a cargo area, and every part is made with top quality wood or steel. The all-terrain solid rubber tires are perfectly suited for the harsh conditions and rough terrain in which they are to be used. This thoughtful design and manufacturing approach is not by accident- maintenance is kept to a minimum. By partnering with many West Michigan businesses our parts are produced for us at discounted prices which makes delivering our P.E.T. carts to over 100 countries around the world more affordable than one might think possible. Consider giving a P.E.T. cart today, and change a life forever.
